Flatfile’s functionality for copying and pasting values or Records is similar to familiar spreadsheet tools like Excel and Google Sheets.

How to use it:

Within a sheet, select the cells or records you want to copy and press Ctrl+C (PC) or Command+C (Mac).

Select the destination cell or range, then press Ctrl+V (PC) or Command+V (Mac) to paste.

Pasting behavior:

  • If you paste into a range with the same number or fewer cells than what you copied, the values will paste exactly as they were.

  • If you paste into a larger range, Flatfile checks whether the copied cells can be repeated evenly:

    • If the copied sequence fits perfectly (for example, copying 3 cells and pasting into a range of 6 cells), the values will repeat across the entire range.

    • If the sequence doesn’t fit evenly (for instance, copying 3 cells and pasting into a range of 5 cells), the values will paste exactly as copied without repeating.

The ability to have values repeat throughout a selected range speeds up the data preparation process while minimizing errors, allowing you to move efficiently through a high volume of data.
