A sheet is the way you describe the shape of the data you want to accept and the validations and transformations you want to perform.

Your sheet should represent the ideal of what you want your data to be. When creating a sheet, ask yourself “How do I want this data to look when it comes out of Flatfile?” Think of it as setting a standard for data validation and standardization.

Sheets are associated with specific Workspaces and Portals in Portal 3.0, and a single sheet can be assigned to multiple workspaces or Portals if you want your data from multiple sources to come to you in the same format. In Portal 3.0 and Workspaces, you will see sheets called "Templates" in the dashboard and in Portal 2.0, sheets are also called "schemas".

Sheets are also closely associated with Data Hooks®. Data Hooks are assigned to sheets, and act on any data uploaded to the sheet they are associated with.
