This article is for Flatfile's Portal 2.0, Portal 3.0 and Workspaces. If you'd like to check out the latest version of the Flatfile Data Exchange Platform, click here!

Flatfile requires the use of third party cookies in order for all of the elements of the importer to run properly. Many browsers and some company networks will block third party cookies by default when in a private or incognito browsing mode. Therefore in order to use the importer, a user must be in a browser that will allow third party cookies.

Currently, when a Portal is opened in a browser window that has third party cookies blocked, the browser will just display a blank window. We are working on ways to provide better error messaging around this so a user knows what they'll need to do to be able to access the importer.

If third-party cookies must be blocked on a company network, we recommend using the custom settings options in your browser to allow cookies for the Flatfile application URLs. You'll want to allow both app.flatfile.com and api.us.flatfile.io, as well as the domain for your application or website.

  • In Google Chrome, you can allow these sites by opening up your Chrome Settings and navigating to the "Privacy and Security" tab on the left, then "Cookies and other Site Data" on the settings page. Under "Customized Behavior", choose the "Add" button next to "Sites that can always use cookies" and add app.flatfile.com and api.us.flatfile.io. You will also need to add your own domain to this section, as some of the necessary cookies are stored there. Please make sure the "including third-party cookies on this site" box is also checked for each of these options, and then save.

  • In Edge, open up Edge settings and navigate to "Cookies and Site Permissions", then click on "Manage and delete cookies and site data". Under the "Allow" heading, choose "Add" and add app.flatfile.com and api.us.flatfile.io. You will also need to add your own domain to this section, as some of the necessary cookies are stored there. Please make sure the "include third-party cookies on this site" box is also checked for each of these options, and then save.

  • In Firefox, open Settings, then Privacy and Security. Under "Cookies and Site Data", click "Manage Exceptions". Add app.flatfile.com and api.us.flatfile.io. You will also need to add your own domain to this section, as some of the necessary cookies are stored there. Once they have all been added, save changes.

  • In Safari, it looks like you can only block or allow all cookies at once without the aid of a browser extension. To do this, go to the Safari menu and click "Settings", then "Privacy". You'll see a checkbox for "Block all cookies", and this should be unchecked.
